Idana's first music teacher was her mother Farishta Gail from whom
she learned to sing Sargam Indian Scales and music theory at the age
of 6. She started dancing and singing professionally at age 11 with
the Vanaver
Caravan in New Paltz NY. Poetry
and songwriting became outlets for her own artistic expression when
she was 15 and began to the frequent open mics when not touring and
performing dance. She went on to get a BA in Arts and Social Change
and Interdisciplinary Performance from Hampshire
College and has worked with theater companies in association
with La Mama
ETC in NYC. In Los Angeles she has performed with Contra-Tiempo
, Great
Leap and is a current member of The
Moving Torah Company.
Idana has taught as
an Arts Educator with
theVanaver Caravan in the NYS schools, at After- School Programs
and Summer Camps in MA and Los Angeles and at the Camp David Gonzales
Detention in assosiation with the FLOW
Program.
